Step-by-Step Cooking Directions for Honey Balsamic Brussels Sprout
-
To begin, wash the brussels sprout, remove any wilted leaves, and with your chef’s knife, trim ¼” off the base of each sprout. Then cut the sprouts in even halves. Place a batch of brussels sprout into your mixing bowl, and add some of the olive oil, salt and pepper. Toss these ingredients in the bowl to disperse the oil and seasoning throughout the Brussels sprout. When they are adequately coated, you will transfer them to a baking sheet. Before doing so, you may place a sheet of butcher paper onto the tray to reduce cleaning later on.
-
Preheat your oven to 350º. Repeat tossing the sprouts, oil, and seasoning until all your brussels sprout halves are coated and transferred to your baking sheet. Once completed, evenly distribute the sprouts on the tray, and remove and leaves that loosened in the process. Loose leaves will tend to burn while cooking. Pro tip: Brussels sprout burn fairly easily, so each of these step in preparation and subsequently in cooking are intended to eliminate burning the sprouts.
-
While roasting the brussels sprout, you will prepare the honey balsamic sauce. Roast the sprouts, checking them at 18 minutes, then at 2 minute intervals until the exterior of the brussels sprout turns golden-brown. To make the sauce, first heat 2Tbsp honey until soft. You may use a microwave safe dish, and heat in a microwave oven for about 30 seconds. Add the honey, 2Tbsp balsamic vinegar, and ½Tbsp olive oil to your prior used mixing bowl, and incorporate these ingredients with a spoon–taste the spoon to ensure a god flavor mixture of sweet and acidic.
-
When finished cooking, remove the baking sheet with an oven mitt, and place on a trivet. While the brussels spouts are still hot, place them in the mixing bowl and toss, coating them in the honey balsamic sauce. Your honey balsamic brussels sprout are now ready to serve. If you’d like to add more texture and flavor to the dish, you can sprinkle crushed walnuts, sliced almonds, or freshly grated parmesan cheese on your plated sprouts.
