BBQ Chicken Flatbread Recipe Ingredients
2 pieces of flab bread or pita bread
6 oz of chicken (shredded, diced, or sliced)
BBQ Sauce 4 Tbsp
1/2 cup of Mozzarella Cheese
2 strips of bacon
4 Tbsp. diced red onion
Step-by-Step Cooking Directions for this BBQ Flatbread Recipe
-
Begin by placing the flatbread onto your baking sheet. For this, you can make your own flatbread or you can purchase pita or flatbreads from the store. Even a pizza crust could work as the base for this recipe.
-
Using a spoon or pastry brush spread the BBQ sauce over the surface of the flatbread leving a margin on the side. Make sure the BBQ sauce lightly glazes the entrie pita bread including the edges. American hickory bbq sauce is used for this recipe but you can use a bbq sauce of your choice.
-
Sprinkle the Mozzarella Cheese over the BBQ sauce. You can use shredded mozzarella cheese, or fresh mozzarella di bufala cheese per your preference. Mozzarella di bufala is a more watery type of mozzarella cheese, so drain carefully before serving.
-
Add the chicken to top off this recipe. You can choose a sliced chicken breast, chicken tenders, or chicken thigh meat. This is a great way to cross-utilize leftover rotissierie chicken if you have some or shredded chicken.
-
Add the bacon to the top of the pita flatbread. Thinly sliced applewood smoked bakon is a personal favorite, but you can also use thick sliced or a bacon that was smoked using a different type of fruit wood or hickory.
-
Add the red onion to the recipe. You can also add bell peppers or vegetables of your choice.
-
Place in a preheated oven at 425 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for approximately 8-10 minutes. The flatbread will be done when the cheese has completely melted and has begun to bubble on top. Because of the high oven temperature flatbreads can burn quickly if not monitored so be sure to keep a close eye when they are nearing the end of their baking time. After removing the flatbreads from the oven, transfer them to a cutting board and using a sharp knife cut them into about 1″-2″ strips, drizzle with a little more BBQ sauce if desired and serve.
-
Slice the flatbread into thin strips and serve.
